5-HTP caught my attention when I was looking for an herb that would help modulate general inflammation; 5-HTP was cited in some small studies as possibly helpful by helping to provide serotonin, a key hormone that participates in the inflammatory response. While not convinced that it helped in this regard (it may have, or maybe not), I do perceive a more positive outlook, and especially notice the difference when I run out between reorders.
Not a fan...

I tried this brand when the one I normally use was out of stock and I needed to take it. For some reason, it did not seem to help me as much as my usual brand. It was basically like not having any at all. The price was also higher even though I bought it at a discount health food store. I finished the bottle because I had paid for it and figured that it was best to have this kind than none at all, but I would not buy it again.

If you are looking for 5 HTP, then Jarrow brand is one of the leading on the market. It works to create serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is often found to be depleted in those with serious depression, and therefore acts as a fabulous alternative to perscriptino anti-depressants. Although in some countries it is illegal for over the counter purchase, we are lucky to have access to it without having a perscription. Take anywhere from 1-3 tablets 3 times a day. If you are sensitive, be sure to start off low and work your way up. If you find that you are so elated you are not having any emotions whatsoever, then decrease the dosage. You are taking too much. It can also be useful for some at bed time, as serotinin acts on the sleep wake cycles of the body. Take a low dose at bed time for insomnia.
