I thought my nightly dose of Melatonin was sufficient to help me sleep, but when I found myself consistently waking up in the middle of the night because of a health problem, I looked into Biochem 5-HTP. I didn't expect much since the two supplements are somewhat related but I wanted to give it a try anyway -- and I'm glad I did. I now take both supplements and sleep solidly throughout the night. Give it a whirl. Just make sure to take it on an empty stomach because other amino acids (proteins) will "neuter" it.

Taking the Biochem 5 HTP 50 mg is even better than some of the alternatives available. In my opinion, the expensive price over the 100 mg pills is well worth it, because the ability to manipulate the dosage from day to day is made more simple. I know that during a woman's menstrual period the serotonin levels drop and cause depression in many women. I find for myself, when I double the dose a week before my menses begins, I eliminate the extreme PMS I used to experience. I alos find that the Biochem pills seem cleaner when I ingest them somehow, as if the are easier to assimilate compared to some of the other brands.
