f Nutraceutical Sciences Institute L-Tryptophan Reviews and Information

L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid-meaning the body does not produce it on its own; it must be obtained through diet. It's found in small amounts in nuts, grains, beans, legumes, cheese, eggs, and meat.

L-tryptophan breaks down into four different metabolites in the body. Most notably, it's converted to 5-HTP, which is then converted to serotonin-a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood, sleep and appetite. Low serotonin levels in the brain are associated with poor mental health and sleep disturbances. Supplementing with L-tryptophan may help raise serotonin levels, promoting better mood, relaxation and rest.

In addition, L-tryptophan is broken down into melatonin, a hormone that regulates the body's sleep-wake cycle, and the B-vitamin, niacin, which helps maintain healthy function of the nervous system, digestive system and skin.

L-tryptophan also plays a part in the production of compounds called kynurenines, which have been found to suppress immune response, an effect that may benefit those with overactive immune function.

Helped me regulate my SLEEP
by Sam Wagner

I usually toss and roll a lot at night while I am trying to sleep. I work a 9 to 5 job and I get home everyday tired and grumpy. My wife suggested that I take L-Tryptophan to help me sleep at night and to also improve my mental state during the day. I have been taking this product for a couple of months now and I can say for sure that I now sleep better every night and I also tend to be less grumpy. This product is great for anyone.

This is the exact pharmaceutical quality product as was available only by prescription after the "tryptophan scare", and is MUCH less expensive. My mother used it and it helped a lot. She told me that it works best when taken on an empty stomach.
