From the Manufacturer:
Homocysteine is an amino acid found in the blood. It is produced by the body and is typically found as a by-product of consuming meat. In recent years scientists have begun to understand more fully the potentially deadly effects homocysteine may have on the body.
Homocysteine is now associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis, a hardening and narrowing of the arteries. Homocysteine also increases the tendency for excessive blood clotting. As these conditions develop, blood flow diminishes and may eventually lead to heart attack or stroke. Elevated homocysteine levels have also been associated with increased fractures in the elderly. This is not due to changes in bone density, but rather is believed to be due to homocysteine’s negative affect on collagen.
