Ginseng(In-Saam 인삼) is a medicinal plant with wondrous effects. Though ginseng grows in other contries as well, it is widely cultivated in Korea where the climate and soil produce the finest of the world. It is a kind of perennial herb that belongs to the Araliaceae family. It is also known as Panax ginseng.
A ginseng plant grows to about 23 inches tall. The subterranean stem is short, and stands either way straight or slightly tilted. The roots looks similar to that of a Chinese bellflower, with a single stalk growing out the stem. Several leaves grow at the end of the stalk. Light green flowers blossom in April. When the flowers wither away, they are replaced by round, reddish fruit.
