Good for mild depression only

I started taking this a couple of months ago when my insurance company stopped paying for the brand of prescription anti-depressant I had been taking. I thought that since I have only moderate depression, I might as well try something natural (and it's cheaper than a prescription co-pay). I switched over according to instructions that I had read on a website to minimize side effects. Still, I notice that the St John's Wort gives side effects similar to some prescriptions: dizziness, light-headedness, and tingly feelings. These side effects weren't bad enough to make me stop taking the supplement. Now, I notice that the St John's Wort is somewhat effective against depression, but not entirely so. It works OK when everything is going well, but when a stressful situation arises, I have my old symptoms of depression -- though not as bad as if I were taking nothing at all. I am planning on returning to prescription anti-depressants, but I would not say that this supplement is useless. If you have only mild symptoms of depression, you should definitely give it a try. The only really negative thing I can say is that it tastes horrible.
