Glucosamine is an amino sugar normally formed in the body from glucose. It is the starting point for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), including hyaluronic acid, a main constituent of joint fluid. Glucosamine supplementation supports the thick gelatinous nature of the joint fluids, joint hydration, and flexibility as well as the function of joints, spinal discs and other connective tissues.

After talking to the vet about my large dog's joint stiffness, he recommended that I add Glucosamine to her diet to support the strength and flexibility of her joints. This is NOT what I gave her, but I did call my Mom and asked if her doctor had ever discussed it. He said to give a try, so she took these twice a day and saw improvement in about a month. She took her pills am and pm, since taking the full dose at once seemed to bother her stomach.
