Inositol is an important B Vitamin. It is important for brain and nerve function* (800-1000 mg/day). The B vitamins are made up of several essential nutrients that provide nourishment for the stress of daily living. Vitamin B-1 (Thiamin), B-2 (Riboflavin) and B-3 (Niacin) are key B vitamins with different structure functions. Additional B vitamins include B-6 and B-12. Inositol helped my tinnitus ( ringing in the ears )
I was diagnosed with Tinnitus many years ago after having surgery on my left ear. The disorder causes a severe ringing in the ears, and sometimes dizziness, as well as balance disturbances. After trying other remedies, mostly prescription drugs that caused drowsiness, I did some research to find out about natural remedies that might help my condition. The family of B vitamins was recommended, and in particular INOSITOL, a B vitamin which research had shown provides increased circulation, especially to the brain, widens blood vessels, and relaxes arteries and veins, which has shown to help tinnitus and Meniere's disease.
I began with just three tablets a day of the 650 mg Inositol and found it did indeed stop the frequency of attacks of ringing in my ears and provided some relief of many of the other associated symptoms, such as nausea and vertigo. Since I started regularly taking a multi-vitamin in 2002 which contained a minimum daily requirement of B vitamins, I stopped my Inositol supplement but within 6 months I began to experience the ringing noise again in my ear. Since I had gotten such relief previously with the Inositol supplement, I checked to make sure that an increase in dosage was safe, as with adding this to supplement my multi-vitamin, and finding it was safe as to the dosage of the two combined, I went back to taking this supplement. Again, I got relief within a very short period of time. MY ENT doctor was very interested in my experience with the supplement and said that often times nature and nutrition can really provide the answers to problems not responding to traditional therapies.
I've been very pleased with the results of Inositol and would recommend that anyone who has tried other treatments that have not worked, at least give this one a trial run, after checking with your doctor, as long as you follow the guidelines as to maximum daily dosage. Inositol also has been shown to increase the circulation to the extremities, which may also help with cold or tingly legs at night, often found in those with poor circulation.
