Hoodia gordonii , is a leafless spiny succulent plant (not a cactus) with fleshly finger-like stems. Rows of thorns are present along the stems, bearing flesh colored flowers. Hoodia gordonii contains an active ingredient that was patented as P57, which research has shown to reduce appetite. This active ingredient in Hoodia gordonii works by replicating the effect glucose has on nerve cells in the brain, fooling the body into thinking it is full even when it is not. Hoodia gordonii contains a molecule that is almost 10,000 times stronger than glucose. Hoodia in its natural form has no known side effects even after eons of use.
The Hoodia species occur in summer rainfall areas in Angola, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa as well as winter rainfall areas in Namibia (MET 2002). Only one species if found east of 26 degrees longitude, i.e. H. currorii subsp. lugardii, which occurs in Botswana and the Limpopo province of South Africa. The centers of diversity for Hoodia are in Namibia (11 taxa) and South Africa (9 taxa).
Although the genus Hoodia is widespread in Southern Africa, herbarium records indicate that Hoodia gordonii only occurs in South Africa and Namibia. Any claims about other areas of distribution should be verified by a competent taxonomis.

I purchased this product after one of my friends told me about the weight loss benefit of hoodia. I'm not a good pill popper so this was a great alternative. So far I have lost 4 pounds but until your system gets used to it, it may make you sick to your stomach as well as jittery. This may not be for everyone!

This product really did decrease my hunger, but it also made me feel very sickly. I lost a total of thirteen pounds in two months with this product. I just gave up using it because it made me feel very bad. If you can handle this product, you probably would loose a lot more. It is a unique way to digest hoodia. I would definitely use again if I could handle the product.
